BAHIR DAR FORESTRY DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Bahir Dar Forestry Development Centre (BFDC) is one of the seven centers established on July 08, 2015 G.C by the then Ethiopian Environment and Forest Research Institute (EEFRI) and transferred to the newly established Ethiopian Forestry Development (EFD) since 14th April, 2022.

BFDC is found in Bahir Dar city at a distance of about 565 km Northwest of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. The center is mandated to conduct forestry research and coordinate forest development activities in Amhara and Benishangul Gumuz National Regional States. The center conducts research on plantation forest, agroforestry, forest protection, ecosystem management, climate change adaptation and mitigation through forest development interventions, and Socio economics and policy forestry. The center, in collaboration with the stakeholders, is also mandated to coordinate forest development activities in its mandate areas.
BFDC caters research findings including both forest technology and information, establishes partnership and cooperation with different stakeholders. The center undertakes adoption, generation and promotion of appropriate forestry technologies and information important for sustainable management, utilization and development of forest and forest related resources in its mandate areas.
The current research programs in the center are (1) plantation forest research program, (2) natural forests and climate change, and (3) policy and socio-economics.
The center disseminates forest and forest related information and technology to stakeholders via training, advisory services, pre-extension technology demonstrations and pre-scaling up activities, field days, workshops and seminars, and publications such as journals, brochures, booklets, and leaflets.
