Ethiopia’s ambitious efforts to combat climate change took a significant step forward today with the official launch of a major land restoration and community resilience project funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF).
Titled “Scaling up the Green Legacy Initiative best practices to enhance the climate resilience of smallholder farmers and vulnerable groups in Ethiopia,” the multi-partner project officially kicked off during a high-level inception meeting aimed at translating national environmental policy into local, action-driven results.
The kickoff gathering brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders, including Regional Bureau Heads, Woreda (district) Administrators, newly onboarded project staff, Regional Implementation Plan (RIP) Coordinators, and representatives from the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR). Participants convened to align on project priorities, establish implementation frameworks, and co-develop the initiative’s first annual action plan.
